Salesforce FDE interview prep

The Salesforce FDE loop is not a coding interview. It is a build day and a client meeting.

Two candidates who went through it recently told us how it runs. Here it is, step by step, with the traps nobody warns you about and a way to practise the part that filters most people.

Salesforce has 25 open roles on our board right now, 18 of them titled Forward Deployed Engineer. See the board →

The loop

  1. Recruiter screen. About 30 minutes. Background and motivation.
  2. Online test. The same test for FDE and Deployment Strategist. About ten exercises: a prompt that must return an exact format, one easy coding problem, SQL, a client scenario, and four multiple-choice questions on system design that carry real weight. You pick the language (33 are allowed). You can skip an exercise and come back, so skip the one that stalls you.
  3. Two gates. Finish the Agentblazer Champion trail on Trailhead and set up your own Developer org. Both block the next round. Do them before the test, not after.
  4. Bootcamp day, part one: two hours alone. A vague business case. You build an agent in your own org, test it and activate it. Halfway through, the client changes the requirements. You either build the change or leave a written plan in the project.
  5. Bootcamp day, part two: the group case. One to two hours, FDEs and Deployment Strategists mixed. A short brief, group prep, then a presentation to two people playing executives. You get an agent that does not work, a team that is worried about it, and one question: what do you propose?
  6. VP interview, then offer. A conversation with a VP after the bootcamp day.

Salesforce says the format is still changing, so confirm each step with your recruiter.

The trap on build day

On a Developer org, the in-browser AI editor gets 110 requests or 1.5 million tokens, and Salesforce's own FAQ says it does not refresh. It ran out mid-build. The candidates who could switch to local VS Code with Claude Code kept going. Practise that switch before the day, with your own org.

What carried the group case

Not the build. It was walking in with a case structure: what to ask, who is affected, what to cut, how to roll it out.

Practise it

  • Free, 5 minutes: the rapid round. Seven judgment calls from real FDE loops, scored as you tap. Take it →
  • With A10X: the Voltaris case is built on the group case: a partner-built service agent losing to human staff, no tests, a team ready to give up, and an executive asking what you propose. You answer in writing and get graded on seven dimensions, then drill the gaps with the coach.
